Network of Asian River Basin Organizations - NARBO
Updated 28 March 2008
Integrated water resources management (IWRM) is a key concept and process for the equitable and sustainable use of water resources. It needs partnerships for actions. These partnerships need support through knowledge sharing and capacity building.
The Network of Asian River Basin Organizations (NARBO) was established to share knowledge and build capacity for IWRM in river basins throughout Asia. ADBI, ADB, and the Japan Water Agency are the founding sponsors.
NARBO's main objectives are to
- enhance the capacity in integrated water resource management
- ensure the equitable and sustainable use of water resources among various stakeholders
- enhance the capacity of river basin organizations, policy makers, and line departments in integrated water resource management
- exchange information, knowledge, and lessons learned in managing water resources and in conflict resolution
ADB is managing a portal web site on water* that links to NARBO's charter, constitutional body, action plans, technical presentations, and members list. Materials from all conferences and meetings can be reviewed there.
