Help Using ADBI's Web Site

Most of the materials on our site can be found in the Publications Catalog. You can search the catalog by subject, year of publication, author, category type, or title.

Parts of a page

Main Navigation

  1. Links to special pages. At the very top of the main navigation is a grouping of links that provide access to useful pages within the site. From here you can access ADBI's contact information, the What's New index, Frequently Asked Questions, the sitemap, e-notifications, and this page.
  2. Upper navigation tier. These links bring you to sections that contain basic information about ADBI, such as: About ADBI, News and Events, Special Programs, and Partners.
  3. Lower navigation tier. These links provide direct access to the outputs of ADBI's work. They are grouped into three sections: Research, Training, and Publications. Much of the content on this site can be found within the Publications catalog.
  4. Search form. Enter keywords into the search box to find related pages and documents.

Page Body

Sample page.
  1. Breadcrumb. The breadcrumb tells you where you are in the site. Each element in the breadcrumb represents a separate document on the path. Click on the element to go to another page. The last element is the title of the page you are on.
  2. Translated version box. This box provides a link to translated versions of the document, if availalbe.
  3. Details box. This box provides context-sensitive information about the page you are in. Depending on where you are in the site, this box will display the contents of the section, the details of the document you are viewing, or a table of contents.
  4. Link box. This box will provide links to related pages or documents. There are two types. "See also" links will take you to pages within ADBI's website. "Related links" will take you to pages outside ADBI's website.
  5. Download PDF button. Many pages will allow you to download a PDF version of the document. Click on this button to download the PDF version. If a PDF version is not available this button will be pale gray.
  6. E-mail to a friend button. This feature will open a facility that will allow you to send an e-mail message containing a link to the page you are viewing.
  7. Print-friendly button. Clicking on this button will bring up a version of the page that has been stripped of navigational elements.
  8. Back to top link. Clicking on this link will bring you back to the top of the page.
  9. Download link. When available, you can also download a PDF version of the page by clicking on the download link text.
  10. Bottom navigation. This replicates the links to special pages found in the top navigation. It also provides links to ADBI website's Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.

Printing materials

Our material can be printed without the navigation by using the printer friendly button. Many of our materials are in PDF format and can only be viewed using Adobe Acrobat reader. You can download the latest version free from Adobe*. For users with a disability, see Adobe's screen-reader compatible download page*.

Compliance standards

This site is Bobby approved for people with disabilities, in accordance with W3C Guidelines for web accessibility. People with disabilities who wish to access PDF format publications should either:

  1. Submit the URL of the PDF document to an online converter provided by Adobe* which will return the text in HTML or ASCII format readable by appropriate speech conversion software.
  2. Download the PDF document and send it by email to Adobe for conversion and return in plain format.
  3. Download an additional free plug-in for Acrobat and Acrobat Reader, called Acrobat Access*. Full instructions on downloading and using this plug-in are provided by Adobe.

Saving PDF files to your own computer

You can also download our materials to your computer by:

  1. right-clicking on the pdf file icon
  2. selecting from the menu " save target as" (Internet Explorer) or "save link as" (Netscape) and deciding where you wish to store the file.
  3. opening the file directly after downloading

Downloading CD-ROMs

When downloading CD-ROMs, click on the link for the download and choose to "Save" the file on your hard drive. Note that CD-ROMs are quite large, and downloading them may take several minutes to several hours depending on your connection speed.

CD-ROMs are usually available as a single PDF file, or as a zip archive.

  1. PDF files are run just like any other PDF file, and you will need Adobe Reader to view them.
  2. Zip files will require the appropriate application to unzip them. Certain operating system versions will be able to handle them by default. If not, you should download an application like WinZip (free) at their website*.
